Two police officers and one medical doctor were suspended from service following the death of 82-year-old Yusuf Topal, who lost his life after being taken into custody by force in Giresun on July 24th.
Topal had applied to the family practice to get an appointment for home care services and to receive the prescriptions of his wife, who was having difficulty walking, for her chronic disease. Following the doctor’s refusal of prescription due to lack of first-hand examination, Topal had a dispute with the doctor. The doctor had then called the police and the officers tried to take Topal in the police vehicle by using force. In the videos recorded by witnesses, Topal is seen to be resisting to not enter the police vehicle and the police officers are hitting him in the face and then reverse handcuffing him. Topal had then lost his life due to a heart attack after this incident.
